Madeit is my homeboy
4You know, even after selling for madeit.com.au for almost two years, I am still an Etsy girl through and through. But a recent development in madeit’s website have got me considering.
I mean it’s pretty much the Australian version of etsy right? It should be better, being cheaper, local and less postage, but I really don’t think they are getting the crowd they need, the people that make etsy so successful. And meaning no disrespect to my lovely customers, but most of the people who I think shop on madeit are mums. And they love buying things for their kids and for themselves, but the bright young artsy things coming up in the worlds are really quite oblivious to madeit. People that make things cool. Madeit are starting to improve that with add spots in magazines like Frankie, but myself being a 21 year old artsy type, had never really head of buying on madeit. I was called as a seller for my product, but never even considered the treasure trove of local craft put there.
I think maybe one of the things wrong with the site is the front page. Now etsy have a beautifully set out front page with a great search engine, a handpicked item grid and all kinds of pretty things. I mean there is allot of crafty fails on that site (just look at regretsy), possibly more so then madeit, but they present their best foot forward and that creates a great expectation for the site. I think that madeit would benefit to having a curated front page too. And good products, made in Australia are out there on the site. They’re just a little tricky to get to. They are doing great things like designer spotlight, staff and seller picks, and a new gift guide, but it could be more.
So I’m going to do a little designer spotlight of my own over the next couple of days with some absolutely fab sellers that I like. All from our very own madeit.com.au
Starting today with Twirling Betty and her absolutly adorable cake buntings. She lives right here in Melbourne and is a happy mum of two who just loves crafting. Armt her creations just delish!
